This information applies ONLY to the Sydney Inner City.
It does not cover Homebush (main Olympic venue where
street performing is a no-no, besides who'd want to) or
the many local Councils in the Greater part of Sydney (like
Manly) who have not bothered to change their current existing systems (if any).

Within Sydney Inner City there are TWO bodies issuing Olympic Busking permits;
The Sydney City Council (which covers the Sydney CBD).
The Darling Harbour Authority (covers Darling Harbour).
So, in order to work both places you'll need to apply for,
and carry TWO permits.

The Sydney City Council Permits.

As from the 1st of September, you will need a special City of Sydney Olympic Permit to work within this sector. They are a different colour than the existing ones so, if you have one, update it, as the old ones will no longer be valid.

There will only be 300 Olympic Permits issued.
Of these 200 will be for Australian (both local & interstate)
performers and the remaining 100 for International acts.
If the international quota is not met by the starting date then the remainder will be passed on to those Australian performers who are still waiting.

As of the 16th of August, the Sydney City Council have received 459 applications/requests for permits. They plan
to start issuing them from the 18th onwards.

yet gotten a permit but would like to busk the Games contact me asap.

The Darling Harbour Authority

Although their policies are rapidly becoming similiar, the Darling Harbour Authority operates differently to the City of Sydney;
- It is only accessible to street/circus/circle show acts.
- An audition is required to obtain a permit.
- It will be an Olympic venue so off-limits till 9.00pm daily.
- There will only be ONE pitch (see Pitches) so the number of Olympic permits will obviously be much smaller.
- Precedence will be given to those who have been working it regularly in the past (as the Authority has no longer the time or the means to arrange auditions).

The old permits will also no longer apply so, if you have one, update it FAST.
